I hadn't set out to see World Trade Center monuments (though my mother visted the site). In fact I'd been stubbornly avoiding them (with what most would probably call political insensitivity) because I don't like the fact we're not rebuilding as fast as we possibly can as if to say "look you had no effect!" (Which, looking at the gates around the NYSE, is obviously not true.) Anyway, immflamatory comments aside, while in battery park I discovered this monument with the wrecked sphere from the World Trade Center. (I had remembered hearing about this eternal flame thing, just not where it was.) And in a way the mangled, original sphere still standing there.. sort of says what I wanted to say.
